Sylvia has contributed significantly to the public sector. She worked for 4 years with the Occupational Health Department of the Metropolitan Police Service.
Her role was to train all Occupational Health Advisors, Welfare Officers and Counsellors within the Met’s Trauma Support Programme in a variety of Mental Wellbeing in the Workplace programmes. Sylvia carried out training needs analysis in specialist areas such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Stress Management, Bereavement, Suicide, Self Care, etc.
Sylvia was also responsible for the groundbreaking work of designing and delivering the first Post- Shooting Re-entry Pilot Programme for Selected Firearms Instructors (SO19), and the design and delivery of a Police Peer Facilitators Programme.
Sylvia also designed and delivered Training Programmes for Child Protection Officers in relation to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and, in addition, she was an integral part of the Met Police’s Counselling Team, providing counselling for individual Police Officers and Groups of the Met’s Specialist Body Recovery Teams working on the Lockerbie Air Crash and the Marchioness Disaster.
